“This house didn’t seem so small when we bought it,” Mark said.
“That’s because we didn’t have twins then,” Brenda laughed. The North Shore couple was trying to find an affordable way to add more living space to their home. “An addition was just out of the question,” Brenda explained. “Our lot is too small and we’d have to go up, which was much more of a project than we wanted to get involved with at this point.”
“And we have adequate bedroom space,” Mark clarified. “What we needed was an area for the family to relax and have fun. The kids needed a place to play so we could make dinner without them being under our feet. We’d just outgrown the space we have.”
Mark and Brenda’s home had a large back deck that didn’t get a lot of use. “It’s a nice space, but we have small kids who need constant supervision to be safe on it,” Brenda said. “When our North Shore building contractor suggested using that space to build a sunroom, it was the perfect solution.”
North Shore Sunrooms: Four Season Living
“We chose to have our sunroom designed and built for year-round use,” Mark said. “The windows are beautiful – they’re fitted with screens, so when we want to enjoy the fresh air we can. When it’s cold outside, you don’t know it. There’s no draft, and the walls are insulated, so it’s a really comfortable space for everyone.”
“I’m really surprised how often we use the sunroom for entertaining,” Brenda said. “The twins have had playdates in there and it’s worked out very well. And it’s a nice space for the book club.”
“All things considered, having a sunroom built was the best way to add extra space to our home quickly and affordably. I’d absolutely recommend other North Shore families consider it, if they’re in the same situation.”
